SOBER MINDS 12-STEP PROGRAM
OUR GOAL
While being a young man is already difficult, add in the difficulty of overcoming a crippling addiction can feel impossible. Long term sobriety is reliant on living a whole and complete life. We at Sober Minds want to create an environment where young men are encouraged to have fun on a daily basis. Getting sober is a deathly serious task for many but while most programs are completely serious all the time, we want the individual to learn how to have fun without drugs and alcohol. No long term sobriety will ever be obtained without learning how to enjoy life. We focus primarily on enjoying life and making the best out of less than desirable situations. While clients will be expected to obtain and hold a steady job we will teach them how to get the most out of each and every day.
Program Guidelines
Residents must be coming from a 30-day or longer treatment program within the past months or from another sober home.
Residents are expected to get a job/ volunteer/ or enroll in classes within the first two months.
Our location makes getting a job easy. Within a 5 miles radius from the house there are multiple surf/ bike shops, grocery store, and a movie theater. With the large turnover rate of employees in a tourist area such as ours there are constantly “Help” signs in many of the small businesses.
We operate as a 12-step program and have require residents to attend 4 meetings a week. We like to use yoga, meditation, and exercise as a large part of our daily program.
Residents are required to take a drug test twice a week at random.
Residents are strongly encouraged to exercise daily. All bikes, boards, accessories and even a gym membership are included.
Biking on the local bike trails, walking the beach, surfing/ swimming/ snorkeling in the ocean within walking distance are all acceptable forms of daily exercise.
Residents will have access to individual therapy and group therapy.
Community Outreach
We have discovered with the 12-step program that the best way to stay sober is to help other addicts and alcoholics. Along our path of sobriety we have found that our outer community benefits from our help as well. We are dedicated to helping our surrounding community whether it is something as simple as orchestrating beach cleanups or bringing food to those around the county who are less fortunate.
